SA2 Removed and On Hiatus

Also, some of you may or may not have noticed I have removed Strange Acquaintances 2. Why? Well, simply because I haven't had any time to work on it like I want and, frankly, I'm just not liking the character designs in some regards. I want to go back and tweak them some and look at working on fixing some other issues I'm having with the comic. So for not SA2 is on hiatus.

So, finally after over a month long wait I’ve finally finished Strange Acquaintances 2 page 6. So what was the deal and why did it take so long?

First, I was frustrated with my art and fell into a slump and as was mentioned in a blog post I decided that I was going to take my time on this so it was fun and not a chore, and mostly to help improve my art. I started concentrating more on backgrounds since I found I was sloppy with them, and though I’m still not perfectly happy with the backgrounds I do feel it’s an improvement.

Secondly, while trying to work myself out of my art slump I came across some new brushes, new artists (to observe), and I started to fool around and practice with these new things. Now some of you guys might not be able to see any changes or improvements in my art, but I do and now I feel like I can move forward.

Finally, and this is the big one, due to being frustrated with my art I pretty much avoided the page. I couldn’t look at it as it symbolized what I was having issues with in my art. Well, the previous pages were that too. I have this huge urge to go back and redo them, but not now as I want to continue to move forward.

What will be the update schedule for SA2 now? Same as always: when I’m done it. I really have to concentrate more on work than free stuff and this is supposed to be done for me for fun, you guys just happen to be sharing in that with me :)

So yeah, that’s pretty much what went on. So TL;DR boils down to stupid artist drama shit, BAAAW my art sucks! :D

Strange Acquaintances 2 and the State of Saturday Updates

COMMISSION STATUS – Close! And I am not doing free requests either, sorry.

Well working on SA2 page 6 right now, and I have to say “fuck it!”

Not to SA2 but rather to trying to push out pages as fast as I can and having the quality suffer. See the point of doing SA and SA2 were to help me learn to improve my art in comic pages. I’ve learned a lot in the first comic, but this time I actually want to practice my background. I pretty much cheated and used very heavy references in the last 5 pages of SA2 and I don’t like that. I don’t feel like I’ve actually learned anything. I might as well just copy-paste backgrounds like I did in SA1. As a result though, getting pages out once a week means I have to spend a lot of time on, and this is time I should be 1) spending on work that pays my bills; and 2) I’d like to have SOME time to do other stuffs as it’s not fun just drawing ALL THE TIME. I need a break. A breather. And sometimes I just want to draw something else for fun :(

So what does that mean, are we going to have to wait a month or more for free updates? Well, no. I still do want to produce free stuff regularly, it just won’t be SA2 ever week. Like say doing character portraits and sexy pinups for people to enjoy without having to pay me for it :P

Other than that this is basically just a “So You Know” journal entry on what’s happening with me and why SA2 has missed another Saturday. I’ll try to have something up tomorrow so keep an eye out on other places I post (Hentai Foundry, free section on my paysite, Darknest, and Deviant Art – all under ackanime)

Itinerary 2011

Time for a new itinerary now that the old one from last year is out of date.

Streaming

I now stream my art, not all the time, but most of the time. No I can’t give you a heads up other than I usually stream Mon/Wed/Fri and sometimes Sat. I give noticed when I am on my twitter and the Darknest IRC channel.

My channels are here:

LiveStream – for all my mild to non-erotic pieces.

WatchTail – for all my excessive erotic peices. NOTE: there’s a 15 person limit to the channel so first come first served.

NOTICE: with the help of some friends, they will be looking into setting up streaming off my server (when they have the chance) so I don’t have to be limited by what I can stream and where :)

Members Section – aka Paysite

Apartment 261 – this is the current and ONLY comic being worked one. I’ve stopped having more than one comic going in the member section since it was getting confusing for me to keep myself straight on storylines and members wanted me to focus on one for speedier updates.

Zaela Chapter 3 – this will start after Apartment 261 is done.

Tantric – there will be another instalment to this series after Zaela. The script is currently being worked on.

Pinups – as you’ve all see Dr.Graevling has joined DtB.ca and is posting pinups every Friday.

Requests – These are now closed permanently. I still have over 300 on the list and I think it’s enough to get an idea of what you members want to see :)

Free Section

Strange Acquaintances 2 – this comic is now under way and I’m looking at updating every Saturday. This is a normal free comic that my husband and I have chosen to do and is not a part of Darknest or any fundraiser whatsoever.

Free Requests – I will never do free requests as I just don’t have the time for it. Anything done for free will usually be done for a friend or for family when I have time.

Commissions – still closed. Haven’t had any time and as such there will be no price list posted. NOTE: if I do reopen, yes, I will make an announcement.

Project Itinerary

Ok, so people have been asking me again and again about what I’m doing next and when. Well, it occurred to me that no everyone knows where to look when I post this info so I’ve decided to be sensible and post it here in my blog. You know, the blog I made just for this purpose :P

Commissions and Requests

Ok this is an important one! The only requests I’ll be taking are ones submitted by paying members through the request form provided in the member section. Note that I sort of do the requests at random and the list is almost 300 requests long.

As for doing requests for free – No. I just don’t have the time with work and the free projects I have going. I love to draw, yes, but there are times I just need to get away from that.
As for commissions – I am closed and will continue to be closed until further notice. Please to no ask me when that will be, I have no clue.

Darknest Incentive Pinups
19 of 30 complete – This is what I’m going to concentrate on until done before going on to anything else in the free section.

Strange Acquaintances 2
Yup, we’ll be doing another SA but this time we’ll be focusing on other characters. The main character will be featuring a female tauren criminal escaping from the Stockades. She’ll be pursued by a human male and dwarf male.
Note this has yet to be scripted, but the idea is pretty much set.

The Artificer Comic
This is going to be put on hold for now. My husband has decide that the script that he has written is just not his best and just doesn’t make him happy. So for now he’ll be rethinking the story he wants to be drawn.

Request Pinups
Ok, I’ve actually been sitting down and cracking into these. The pinups for now will be going into a sort of storage to help build up some backup work for when I get sick, fall behind, or go on vacation.

Comics
After the Voting Comic is done I’ll be focusing on one comic at a time…yeah I sometimes get a bit over zealous when it comes to comics my husband scripts and I try to do them all at once :P

Zaela
Don’t worry Zaela will be returning and we have at least another story involving here, but for now it won’t be drawn until the Voting Comic, Weird Alchemy, and Apartment 261 are complete.

Apartment 261
This is currently on hold until the Voting Comic and Weird Alchemy are done. As stated above about comics in general.

The Artificer Comic - Character Sketches

Working on some character sketches for those that will be in the comic, all including of course the main characters you've come to know from the written stories on the site, and of course the additional/minor characters that will be in the comic.

This comic will be free and will take the place of Strange Acquaintances when it's complete in early 2010 (there's less than 10 left!).

So for now, Steve is still working on the script and I'm still working on characters.

I'll post more when I get them done.

I would like to inform people that I will be away from home from Sept 16 to 22 as I and my husband fly down to the Canadian East Coast to visit family.

In that time I will be updating DtB.ca with Primal Tails 2 pages. This is my vacation time and I don't want to spend it working, but at the same time don't want the site to just sit there in the corner being quiet :P

Also, Ackanime.com has been update with an 'About Page' on Shades of Desire

The Votes Are In!

The votes are in on a "choose what happens" comic! 70% of you that voted were interested in trying this out.

How It Works
DtB.ca will give you a story with a main character where in you vote on what he/she does (will give you options to vote on). Once a week a comic page will be posted with the results of the majority vote on what happens, could be good or could be bad (but will be sexy :D).

Why Once A Week?
This will give you time to vote, my husband time to script the page, and me to draw/color it.

Stories/Characters
DtB.ca will start off with a character you don't know so you can see what it's like. This will not affect any current comic storylines going on, though we might allow you to decide what happens to currently establish comic characters from DtB.ca (again this won't affect any currently storylines involving them).

Uhg the Heat!

My god, the heat in my computer room is stupidly high.

Now granted downstairs where I usually draw, it's great. AC unit down there keeps the downstairs cool along with the dinning room fan going to help circulate, I could draw down there till my heart's content.

Bedroom upstairs has it's own AC unit so I never have trouble sleeping at night so I'm always refreshed and can concentrate on work.

But no, not the computer room. It has the worse circulation out of all the rooms in the house. All heat flows to it. And to make it worse 2 computers in a small room, and add 2 people in it ever once in a while and it gets really hot D: I have a fan set up in here and the window's wide open...but no use.

I pray for the coming of fall and then winter....so much more work gets done.

Fun With Medication...And of course other stuff too.

For a bit more of a description for why there was a pinup instead of a comic page, here's the reason.

Medication Story
Usually I take hypnotic drugs to help me sleep. I say hypnotic because that's what they are classified and are really sleeping aids. But any way, for the last 4 nights I've tried going off them to see if I could sleep regularly, and of course seems I can't. But that was only found out after the 3 days of withdrawal which is what has screwed up my progress. I've been tired but unable to see :P I hate it, I feel like a damn zombie.

So with this new info I'll be going back on my drugs to help me sleep at night. So no worries about my health, and you should be happy to know I'll be back on track with regular M/W/F updates next week :)

More Strange Acquaintances
Hoping to have another page of SA up next week as well. Since I've gotten my new tablet, the cintiq has drastically sped up my production with art. That and the fact that I don't play World of Warcraft any more :P

Reason: it's just not the same any more. I still love the Warcraft world though so I won't be stopping on doing WoW art, so don't fret!

Old Subscriptions, New Subscriptions

As some have asked me, will old accounts still work on DtB.ca or will you have to re-sign up. Well, as soon as I can I'm going to talk to my server guy and see if the old paypal subscriptions can be transfered over to the new system. If it can't then I'm going to try and get my Paypal account back so I can refund people (which I'll work on getting back anyways since I have funds locked up in there).

Subscriptions Down

Current and new subscriptions are down at the moment as I switch over from Paypal to a new creditcard processor. TicketClub will allow members that don't have creditcards to finally sign up on DtB.ca (like you Europeans that have been asking me about direct debit).

This all started when Paypal finally found me out and locked my account. I find it funny that they won't allow the selling of adult content but will allow it on Ebay :P Oh well, like many people in the adult industry I feel PP shot itself in the foot when it prevented the industry from using them as a payment option.

I'll have the new system up asap (hopefully by the end of Thursday CST).

We Can All Agree Dec Was Crap

Well, with the catching of the flu and the holiday season upon us, December was a crap month for updates. After getting caught up I then got hit with anxiety about going to visit my parents. Not because I don’t like seeing them but the fact that I had to have everything fixed and ready for a long flight down, everything at home was arrange to be handled while I was gone, and that all the xmas gifts were sent and arrived ok.

Now usually this wouldn’t be a problem, but of course I got anxious (at this point my doctor has been messing with my meds) and when it gets bad I have this tendency to go ‘hermit’ until it passes.

Usually I give fair warning that I’m going away for a week, but this time I didn’t…and I meant to while at my parents, but the family reunion was HUGE and took a lot of energy out of me.

Excuse aside, though, I do have good news. I’ve had time to relax and reflex on the site and I know how to pick up my productivity. Schedule. I started noticing that my work schedule was all over the place, and that caused for wasted time and little to show for it :\

So as you can see now on the main site I’ve officially made the member section a M/W/F schedule, and the free section every Saturday. Now this doesn’t mean that Strange Acquaintances will be updated every Saturday, but will be every 2nd Satruday. This will leave me an update in between SA for other things that I’ve wanted to draw for fun :)
As for this week, it doesn’t count :P (I know, free on Friday, member on Saturday). This new schedule officially starts on Monday.

New Look for DtB.ca

Why you may ask? Well, many of you (mainly the members) wanted to be able to cruise both the free and member section without having to go through the main URL. Plus I have to admit things were feeling a little all over the place with the old design :\

Inaccessability to the Member's Section FIXED!

As most found out on Oct 20, for some reason no one could access the Member's Section. I couldn't access the member's section! So I messaged up my good friend Jason, who hosts DtB.ca, to find out what happened.

For some reason the server decided that the htpasswd file, the file that has all the accounts on it, was looking mighty tasty and just ate it. It was blank! Well, going into my PP account I went to grab all the username/password info for all members to put back into file, after which Jason would make sure the server would make nightly backups to avoid this again.

Well, apparently it wasn't going to be that easy. Though I could download said member info, all passwords were encrypted...so I had to start on the long task of going through each and every single member's details to retrieve the passwords manual D:

That said, it's finally done and everything is mostly back to normal. I just know I forgot to add someone, so if you can't login email me with your PP subscription ID and I'll look you up and add you so you can get access again :)

Page 30 Preview – Mysterious Character

Because I’m so please with how he turned out, I’m giving you all a sneak peak at the mysterious character that’s appeared in page 29. Yup, it’s a troll though ima (on the shoutbox) was correct his skin color is off and is something I need to fix. Hard to get a character to look right when all you have is his hand to go by :P
Now below is a short description of what has been happening to me the last month, so if you don’t care to know about my personal life (it’s not a baaaaw story so don’t worry) stop here :P

Ok, reason why I have been ‘ill’ as I put it is not because I’ve had the flu or cold on and off for the last month but rather because I have a medical condition. Now I don’t want sympathy, again this is just to let you know what’s been going on.

I have been suffering from GAD (general anxiety disorder) and serious depression for 7 years now, and me being stupid took too much on in late August. Now this has nothing to do with the site but rather a friend talked me into a project that I just didn’t have the time to really dedicate to it and so I got overwhelmed. This is where my GAD and depression kicked in. When this happens I start to lose motivation and start avoiding everything, even things like house work. To make matters worse my husband has Warhammer Online and of course I became addicted to it.

Now, thankfully, I’m out of this ‘funk’. Josh from Slipshine gave me a huge push to get some Shades of Desire pages done to make the resent update since he was short pages. This has helped greatly to get me back to focusing on drawing.

All in all, I don’t like to miss deadlines. I really do enjoy drawing Strange Acquaintances and would still like to get it to a weekly update. I just have to remember that I don’t need any more on my plate :P

I’d like to thank everyone for being patient with me and putting up with my bitchiness during this time.

The Process to My Comic Make

Ok, since so many of you have been asking about how I do Strange Acquaintances I’m going to make this post to show you the steps I take. Here I'll use page 29 for examples.

1. The Script.
As some of you may know, my husband is currently the main writer for SA. Here he writes up panel for panel what he pictures and then I usually translate that into drawing. Sometimes, thought, I will merge so of his panels into one, or even split them if I find the description too complex for one panel.

2. Penciling and Inking
To get the best detail on each panel I draw them all separately. I don’t have the luxury of having a huge scanner to handle the comic poster board that pros use unfortunately, but I prefer this method because I can decide how much and how little of what I’ve drawn to be shown in the panel once scanned.

Here you can see an example of one 8.5*11 page divided in half since the panels are huge and I don’t require the entire page to draw one panel. This saves paper for me in the long run :P

3. Assembly of the Page
Now I scan in all the pages with the finished panels and start to piece them together on the page. Here I’ll resize and crop each panel to look how I want.

4. Coloring
Once the lineart has been placed into their spots and made into a separate layer (this is so I can color the lineart itself). I’ll start the long process of coloring…this part’s a secret :P Well, ok it’s not I just don’t want to go into huge detail on how I color in this post. I’ll leave that for another entry.

5. Dialogue
Now that the page is complete, I’ll insert the dialogue my husband has typed up in the script and place it so that you can still see the ‘best parts’.

Strange Acquaintances to Get New Update Schedule

Seems like when ever I try to get the page done for Wednesday everything, including the kitchen sink, get's thrown at me.

The update for page 28 was delaid by both artistic block and my stomach giving me problems yet again! And no different for page 29, except for the artistic block that is...I just want to spend enough time on the pages to make sure they look good, and I feel I failed at that with page 28.

I'm thinking that I will, after all, have to go back to the every 2 weeks update for SA just so I have enough time inbetween to update my member's section often enough and draw Shades of Desire frequently enough for Slipshine and my site.

As for now, I will try to get page 29 done ASAP.
